Job Scope:

• The successful candidate shall work with another research fellow to lead the project. The area of research is to study nitrogen removal via the nitrite short-cut process with focus on microbial communities profiling, bioprocess optimization, inhibition mechanisms, and greenhouse gas emission control.
• The successful candidate shall participate in the design, planning, and execution of the laboratory works, and helps PI to supervise PhD students.
• The candidate shall participate in designing the sampling program and execution of sample collection and analysis, and data analysis.

Requirements:

• A recognized PhD degree in environmental biochemistry,  environmental biotechnology or other related fields
• Knowledge and experience on tracking microbial metabolic pathway and bioreactor operation would be an advantage
• Keen on picking up planning and management skills
• A motivated individual with good communication skills
• Have interest in conducting research and development projects

Suitably qualified applicants are invited to send in their CV electronically to ExecDir-NEWRI@ntu.edu.sg on prescribed form obtainable from here http://www.ntu.edu.sg/ohr/Career/SubmitApplications/Pages/Research.aspx together with relevant CVs.

Please indicate clearly the position applied for when submitting an application.

Deadline for application: 2 May 2012

Entry level and starting salaries will depend on candidate's qualification and experience. Only short-listed candidates will be notified for interview.

Research Fellow (Molecular Microbiology):
For Centre’s Bioaugmentation Cluster
Advanced Environmental Biotechnology Centre

The individuals will have experience in Molecular Microbiology, and will integrate into existing AEBC projects designed to identify interactions between organisms that can ultimate lead to improvements in bioprocesses. This will entail a combination of molecular microbial genetics, community analysis, strain characterization and management, biological interaction analysis, as well as development of screening methodology relevant to bioprocess applications.

Requirements:

• A recognized PhD in Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Environmental Microbiology & Biotechnology or other equivalent discipline.
• Expertise and experience in Molecular Microbiology (fresh PhD graduates are welcome, but 2-3 years of post-doctoral experience will be an advantage)
• Skills in some of the following will be considered favorably: recombinant DNA techniques, microbial isolation and cultivation, molecular characterization of strains, biochemical and chemical analytical methods, metabolic profiling, microscopy (both fluorescence and confocal) and image analysis, molecular community analysis (DGGE, T-RFLP, sequencing, pyrosequencing), metagenomics, proteomics, transcriptomics, protozoa-bacteria interaction, phage-bacteria interaction
• Good planning and management skills
• Ability to integrate well into a team of researchers with different backgrounds and the ability to learn new techniques
