Take a quick video tour of NEWRI research facility and research capability
The Waste-to-Energy Research Facility aims to address waste management through an integrated approach. This new, high temperature slagging gasification facility to be located in Tuas South, seeks to complement existing mass-burn incinerators by providing unique, environment-friendly benefits through coke-free operation (replacement with cleaner fuel), reducing ash output by up to 80% and recycling by-products such as slag and metal. The research facility serve as an open platform for research, translation, demonstration and test-bedding WtE technologies.
In collaboration with industry partners Global Foundries, a Wafer fabrication company, we created solutions that are designed for the industrial use. Pilot and full scale plants were set up at their plant. The outcome showed water reclamation of up to 1000m3 of water per day.
