Environmental Biotechnology Facility

NEWRI is proud of our competence in environmental biotechnology research and development. The wide range of environmental biotechnology facility in NEWRI serves as a strong supporting tool to our researchers.

Confocal Microscope

 

Location: NEWRI-AEBC Lab, #05-09, CleanTech One (CTO) at CleanTech Park

Capability: The Nikon A1R Hybrid Spectral Imaging Confocal is a high-end point scanning confocal microscope. It features a "hybrid scanner", that is two scanners in one scanning-head: a glavano scanner for low-noise images ranging in resolution from 64 x 64 up to 4096 x 4096 pixels and a resonant scanner that is capable of taking up to 30 full 512 x 512 pixel frames per second. It also incorporates 4 channel detection (excitation wavelengths 405, 491, 515, 561 and 640nm) and 32 channel spectral detector (2.5/6/10nm spectral resolution). This confocal system is capable of capturing high-quality confocal images of cells and molecular events at high speed and sensitivity. It is suitable for advanced research methods using photo activation imaging.

Lightcycler Real-Time CPR

 

Location: NEWRI-AEBC Lab, #05-09, CleanTech One (CTO) at CleanTech Park

Capability: The Roche Lightcycler 480II Real Time PCR is a rapid high-throughput, plate-based real-time PCR amplification and detection instrument that supports mono- or multicolor applications as well as multiplex protocols. It provides various methods for gene detection, gene expression analysis, genetic variation analysis and array data validation. It is designed for life science research only but not intended for use in diagnostic procedures.

Microplate Reader

Location: NEWRI-R3C Lab, #05-04, CleanTech One (CTO) at CleanTech Park

Capability: The BioTek Synergy™ H1 Hybrid Reader is a flexible monochromator-based multi-mode microplate reader that can be turned into a high-performance Hybrid system with the addition of a filter-based optical module. The monochromator works at any excitation or emission wavelength with a 1 nm step. This system supports top and bottom fluorescence intensity, UV-visible absorbance and high performance luminescence detection. It is suitable for all the standard microplate applications in life science. The filter module includes its own light source and a high performance dichroic-based wavelength selection system. This module supports advanced detection modes such as Fluorescence Polarization, Time-Resolved Fluorescence & TR-FRET and filtered luminescence.
