Environmental Chemistry and Materials Facility

NEWRI is equipped with an extensive range of high-end facility for environmental chemistry and materials science including TEM, HPLC, LC-MS, GC, GC-MS, CHNS analyser and pore size analyser etc, which renders strong support to the high quality research activities in NEWRI.

Transmission Electron Microscope



Location: NEWRI-AEBC Lab, #05-09, CleanTech One (CTO) at CleanTech Park

Capability: The JEOL JEM-1400Plus Electron Microscope is the TEM of choice for those looking for the ultimate in 120kV performance. It features high resolution/high contrast imaging, outstanding S/TEM analytical performance, elemental mapping with the latest large-area SDD detectors, cryomicroscopy, 3D tomography, and montaging. It is suitable for biological, polymer, and materials science applications with resolution of lattice image of 0.20nm and point image of 0.38 nm.

Ultra High Performance Liquid Chromatography-QQQ Mass Spectrometer (UHPLC-QQQ)

 

Location: NEWRI-AEBC Lab, #05-09, CleanTech One (CTO) at CleanTech Park

Capability: The Shimazu LCMS-8030 couples the power of a Triple Quadrupole Mass Spectrometer with the ultra fast speed of UHPLC system. It is suitable for accurate quantification and confirmation of trace level analytes in complex matrices, e.g. environmental samples, biological samples, pharmaceutical samples and food samples.


Gas Chromatography – Mass Spectrometer (GC-MS)


Location: 
NEWRI-R3C Lab, #05-04, CleanTech One (CTO) at CleanTech Park

Capability: The Agilent GC/MSD system in the R3C lab combines the highly sensitive MSD 5977A and the newly integrated intelligence of the 7890B GC. It is suitable for determination of the volatiles in complex sample matrices, e.g. environmental samples, biological samples, pharmaceutical samples and food samples, with highly accurate mass information and optimized signal-to-noise ratio.


Liquid Chromatography – Organic Carbon Detection (LC-OCD)



Location: NEWRI-SMTC Lab, #05-05, CleanTech One (CTO) at CleanTech Park

Capability: The DOC-Labor LC-OCD Model 8 system is capable for identification and quantification of natural organic matter (NOM) constituents in aquatic environments and water-soluble synthetic organic matter in technical waters. This system incorporates not only an OCD detector but also a UV detector (UVD) and an organic nitrogen detector (OND). It features an autosampler and a manual injection device for “quick” TOC-measurements during standard operation. This system is suitable for applications such as NOM investigation in drinking water, wastewater and marine waters, and quality control monitoring of ultra-pure water used in power plants etc.
